π is the same in every circle
The ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter is always π ≈ 3.14159. No matter the size: the proportion never changes.
Pythagoras: a² + b² = c²
In every right triangle, the square of the hypotenuse equals the sum of the squares of the legs. It measures distances without traveling them.

Light travels at ~300,000 km/s
In a vacuum, light moves at 299,792 km/s: so fast it would circle the Earth seven and a half times in one second.
E = mc²
Mass and energy are two sides of the same coin: a speck of mass holds an enormous amount of energy. That is how the Sun and stars shine.

Water is H₂O
Every water molecule has two hydrogen atoms and one oxygen atom. That simple recipe sustains all life we know.

The elements are ordered by atomic number, and that table predicted elements before they were discovered.

Our planet circles the Sun every ~365.25 days: that is where the year comes from, and the extra day every four years.

Tectonic plates drift a few centimeters per year: earthquakes and volcanoes are born at their edges.
The core is burning iron
Earth's center is mostly iron at ~5,500 °C, as hot as the Sun's surface.

Deoxyribonucleic acid carries the hereditary information of every living being, written in a four-letter chemical alphabet.
Photosynthesis feeds the world
Plants turn sunlight into chemical energy and release oxygen: almost all life depends on that trick.

Washing hands with soap measurably reduces the spread of infectious disease. It is medicine's cheapest measure.

Texts, photos, videos and programs reduce to bits: with just two symbols, all digital information is represented.

Humanity speaks thousands of languages; each one holds a different way of seeing and ordering the world.
Writing was born for bookkeeping
About 5,000 years ago, the first writings recorded harvests and tributes before poems: counting came before singing.
